Timmins has been announced as the host city for the 2020 conference of the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FONOM).
Timmins Mayor George Pirie, who attended the 2019 conference May 8-10 in Sudbury, said he looks forward to hosting delegates from around the North.
“While this conference provides wonderful learning opportunities from the various speakers, it also allows the host community to highlight some of their success stories,” Pirie explained in a release.
“The three-day conference covered topics of broader municipal interest, but the host city of Sudbury was also provided with an opportunity to present the Power of Partnerships with Science North project, and showcase what else was happening in their community.”
The FONOM Conference has grown to more than 200 delegates and exhibitors, and is expected to bring more than $100,000 in economic activity to the community, in the areas of accommodations, restaurants, gas stations and retail.
FONOM is an advocacy group representing 100 municipalities across northeastern Ontario, with the aim of improving the economic and social quality of life for its members.
